Prof. Maria Pia Fanti, Polytechnic University of Bari


Maria Pia Fanti (M'92–SM'02) received the Laurea degree in electronic engineering from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 1983.,She was a Visiting Researcher at the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute of Troy, Troy, NY, in 1999. Since 1983, she has been with the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Politecnico di Bari, Bari, Italy, where she was an Assistant Professor from 1990 until 1998, and is now an Associate Professor of Automatic Control. Her research interests include discrete-event systems, Petri nets, modeling and control of automated manufacturing systems, supply chains, transportation systems, and health care systems. She has published around 160+ papers and one textbook on these topics.,Prof. Fanti was General Chair of the Second IFAC Workshop on Dependable Control of Discrete Systems, the 2010 IEEE Workshop on Health Care Management, and the 2011 IEEE Conference on Automation Science and Engineering. She was Program Co-Chair of the Third International Workshop on Intelligent Vehicles 2009, the 2009 IEEE Conference on Automation Science and Engineering, and the 2009 IEEE Conference on System, Man, and Cybernetics. She was member of the International Program Committees of around 30 international conferences. She is an Associate Editor of the IEEE Transactions on Systems, Man, and Cybernetics Part A, the IEEE Transactions on Automation Science and Engineering, The Mediterranean Journal of Measurement and Control, and the International Journal of Automation and Control, Enterprise Information Systems. She is Co-Chair of the IEEE SMC Society Technical Committee on Discrete Event Systems, Chair of the Central and Southern Italy SMC Chapter, member of the IFAC Technical Committee on Discrete Event and Hybrid Systems.
